Quit Your Job

James Kochalka has the ability to nail little details, and create an unshakeable (if fanciful) internal logic in his stories.

In this original book, Magic Boy thinks he quits his job and takes Kitty outside to to embark on a grand adventure in what turns out to be a major snowstorm. There is also a fight with a robot, a magic ring, and a letter from NASA–but as I said, it all makes perfect sense at the time.

The book is smallish and square and panels play on variants of a four-square grid. The drawing style is bold, but not quite as crisp as some of Kochalka’s books. This works well, however, as you feel the snowstorm as well as see it.

I have quickly become a Kochalka fan. This book is highly recommended.
